November 17th is Prematurity Awareness Day!! This is a cause that is now close to our family's heart since the twins were born at 32 weeks. We are so lucky to be in the age of medical science and the ability to care for babies that are born before they are truly ready to face the world. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go to make sure that every baby has a fighting chance to make it home to their own crib and stay in their mother's arms forever!
Once you have been a parent of a NICU baby and have spent time in a NICU, you will learn what little fighters these tiny little babies are. We were so blessed that the twins never had any major setbacks and for the most part everything just went forward without the steps back. The NICU is such a sad and happy place, happy for those who get to bring their little babies home and sad for those who aren't as lucky.
During our stay in the NICU it was difficult and there were times where you were aware that things were not going positive for certain babies in the NICU, machines constantly going off, nurses and doctors running around, all you could do was pray for those babies who were just trying their hardest to make it home.
Please consider supporting March of Dimes in their fight for preemie babies!
